  1. 1. The Mariner shoots the albatross because he senses that its a bad omen. He also did it without thinking of the consequences of how other people would feel about his actions.

    2. The crews opinion of the Mariner changes in part 2 because they found out that the albatross instead of bringing them good luck brought them bad luck.

    3. The lines say" Instead of the cross, the albatross around my neck was hung." This means that instead of him being honored for killing the albatross he was condemned and therefore he had to wear it around his neck.

  2. 1. i believe the Mariner shoots the albatross because of self sufficiency and pride

    2. They discovered that the albatross brought bad luck instead of good luck.

    3. Last line means that because of his wrongful acts we wasn't admired for anything anymore but rather looked at for guilt which is why it was hung around his neck.

  3. 1. In part one of the poem, the Ancient Mariner shoots the albatross quickly without really putting much thought into what he was about to do. I think that the Mariner shot this bird because he was afraid of what the bird meant and would bring to them.

    2. When the Mariner shot the albatross, the sailors at first were angry at him because they thought that the bird had saved them, but after the storm got worse, for example fog appeared, they were happy for what the Mariner did. But later on part two, the sailors had nightmares and grew thirsty so they blamed it on the Mariner.

    3. After analyzing the last stanza of part two, I get a theme of religion. The lines talk about the "evil" from the "old and young" and how he is carrying the dead albatross on his neck instead of a cross. He is comparing what is happening to him to Jesus on the cross, and how we are all born sinners. How because we are all born sinners, he is condemened and has to carry that truth, all relating back to the Mariner killing the albatross which becomes another symbol of Christianity.

  4. 1. The ancient mariner shoots the albatross in the beginning of the ballad for no reason at all. It appears that maybe out of just sheer boredom or curiosity the mariner wanted the albatross gone.

    2. At first when the Mariner shot the albatross the crew on board celebrated and agreed that he should have done what he did and applauded his actions. After part 2 of the ballad the tables turned on the mariner and his crew blamed him for any mishaps that they encountered. They thought that him shooting the albatross was a curse that he brought upon the ship.

    3. The last stanza in part two seems to have very vivid biblical references. It mentions comparisons of the mariner to Jesus Christ. The last stanza basically states that the mariner is an example that others are supposed to follow when it comes to respecting nature and anything that was created by God.

  5. 1. Contrary to the belief that the Albatross was a gift from God, I feel like the Mariner didn't appreciate its beauty and power. The Mariner killed the Albatross because he thought he didn't need it to get through the sea.

    2. The crews opinion changes because they know that the Mariner's act of cruelty would soon affect them in a negative way. The bird that brought them the breeze, fog, and mist is gone and they are doomed.

    3. The Last Stanza in part two proves the anger the crew feels towards the Mariner. When Coleridge says " Instead of the Cross, the Albatross about my neck was hung", he meant that instead of good things happening to them, the albatross which now hangs from the Mariners neck would bring them doom.

  6. 1- he shoot it for no reason he was bored and for new reason he just killed it.

2- they were mad because they knew that bad things were going to happen and when they say that bad things did start happening they only got more mad.

3-the last stanza got the crew more mad and they saw that this was going to bring them bad luck and they were goin to suffer and the bird on his neck is a sighn of bad luck.

  7. 1) I believe the ancient mariner shoots the albatross because he is afraid of what it can bring to them, like bad luck or something along those lines.

2)They found out that the albatross brought them bad luck instead of good luck, and blame the mariner for it.

3)The last stanza of part two shows how angry the crew is at the mariner and how much they blame him. they put the albatross around his neck to represent that he and the bird have brought bad luck to them all.

    1. The Mariner shoots the albatross because he thinks that it will bring bad luck to them.

2.The crews opinion of the Mariner changes in part 2 because the albatross brought them good luck and allowed the wind to flow.

    3. The last stanza of part two shows the reaction of the crew members and how the guy was no longer admired but looked down upon for the action that he took.

  10. 1. The mariner shoot the Albatross because he was tired of it flying around obscuring their view and also thought that it was bad luck.

2.The crews opinion chnages due to the actions he took in killing the Albatross and stranding them in the middle of the sea.

3.The last Stanza of part two signifies how the crew members turned on the mariner due to the death of the albatross. He was now burden with his death.

  11. 1. The Mariner Shoots the Albatross because he acted on his impulse and his first impresion was that it was bad and would do harm to them.

2.The crews opinion changed because they were able to see all the bad things happenig after the Albatross died. The Albatros brought them the breeze, the fog and mist.

3.It means that he got condemed because of killing the Albatross.

  12. 1. I believe the reason for the Mariner's selfish and heartless action to the Albatross was because he believed it was a sign of bad luck perhaps. Since that type of bird can't remain too far from land, maybe it was a sign to the Mariner that it was no good for the Albatross to be around.

    2. The crew's opinion about the Mariner definitely changed in part two because after the Mariner killed the Albatross, they all blamed him for all of their misfortunes.

    3. I believe the last stanza is saying that everyone (from old and young) is disappointed, distraught, and uneasy of the fact that the mariner killed the only hope and sign of a miracle.
